Captains Chairman and Secretary/Treasurer Peter A. Carfagna is a life-long Cleveland resident and avid baseball fan. Mr. Carfagna entered the world of professional baseball ownership in November of 2000, when he and his wife, Vice Chairman Rita Murphy Carfagna, purchased the Columbus Red Stixx baseball team in Columbus, Georgia, along with Rita's brother/Captains' Vice President Ray Murphy. Following the 2002 season, the Indians’ Class A affiliate was relocated to Eastlake and became the Lake County Captains. Under the Carfagna's/Murphy's ownership, the Captains have attracted over two million fans during their first six seasons in Northeast Ohio.
Mr. Carfagna is an accomplished attorney, with over 25 years of corporate law experience. He attended Harvard College ('75) and Harvard Law School ('79), and also holds a law degree from Oxford University ('77) where he studied as a Rhodes Scholar. For 10-plus years (1994-2005), Mr. Carfagna was Chief Legal Officer/General Counsel for IMG, a global sports marketing company specializing in sports event planning and athlete representation where Peter E. Carfagna also worked from 2001 to 2004.
Mr. Carfagna also teaches Sports Law at Case Law School in Cleveland. His other community service activities include: Chair of Catholic Diocese of Cleveland Finance Council; Past Board Chair of St. Ignatius High School; and United Way of Lake County Board '06 Campaign Co-Chair with his wife, Rita, Vice-Chairman of the Captains.
